KJV vs WEB: Which Bible Translation Does Our Randomizer Use?

By Shahzaib Malik · Updated October 2026

Our random verse tools let you switch between two translations: the King James Version (KJV) and the World English Bible (WEB). Here is what makes them different and how to choose.

The King James Version (KJV)

Published in 1611 under King James I of England, the KJV is the most famous English Bible in history. It uses older English ("thee", "thou", "hath") and has a beautiful rhythm that makes it easy to memorize. It is in the public domain in most countries.

The World English Bible (WEB)

The WEB is a modern English update of the American Standard Version of 1901, completed in the early 2000s. It uses everyday English and was deliberately placed in the public domain so anyone can copy and share it freely.

Side by Side: John 3:16

KJV: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

WEB: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life."

Which Should You Choose?

Why Not NIV or ESV?
